Sulphuric acid (H2SO4) is the most versatile and industrial used base chemical. Major uses would be in the production of fertilisers and manufacturing of chemicals. The waste heat from the sulphuric acid can also be recovered as useful energy such as electricity by using a steam turbine. For this order, our client in Germany purchased Vitherm Weldpack® for their process to be used as a H2SO4 cooler.

Plate heat exchangers are popular among the acid coolers due to its compact size and competitive price compared to shell and tube. Since for this process the temperature of Sulphuric acid was below 90ᵒC, it makes Hastelloy C-276 a suitable material for this application.

Vitherm units are being frequently used in different industrial applications due to its credibility and reliability. The fluid is only in contact with the hastelloy plates or lined panels and nozzle connections.
