Vitherm recently clinched an order for the supply of a 316L heat exchanger for a plant in Spain. This customer a global energy company has utilized Vitherm’s plate heat exchangers for it lean/rich amine products. The purpose of such heat exchanger is to reduce the duty of reboiler by recovering some of its heat. That would include preheating rich amine before entering the stripper or cooling the lean amine before it enters the absorber.
What is Lean and Rich Amine?
Lean and rich amine refers to the concentration of amine in a solution used for gas treatment. The lean amine solution has a lower concentration of amine and is primarily used for absorbing contaminants, such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S), from the gas stream. The rich amine solution, on the other hand, has a higher concentration of amine and is used for regenerating the lean amine solution by removing the absorbed contaminants.
